Poulton Chaddeans to mark 50th anniversary with celebratory 'Gold' musical stage show

Musical theatre group the Poulton Chaddeans will mark their 50th anniversary next month with some of their greatest hits from the last half century.

Their special landmark Gold show runs nightly from March 2-4 and includes a matinee on the Saturday afternoon.

A cast of around 30, ranging in age from five to 80 plus, will perform songs from top musical shows of the last 50 years.

A spokesman for the company said: “Over that period sometimes several generations of the same families have taken part in Chaddeans’ shows, or supported the productions backstage, or in front-of-house roles.

Until 1973 there had been various performances by the tennis club and other groups at St Chads church hall, until the vicar at the time Rev Thomas Stretch suggested they amalgamate their talents into one team, to perform one or two shows a year, including annual pantomimes.

Since then the group have been singing out, and raising thousands of pounds for charity.

Causes that have benefitted include Blackpool Victoria Hospital, Help The Heroes, Macmillan cancer support, and the 2004 tsunami relief fund. In the last 10 years alone that amounts to £12,000.

The group a challenge, when the hall was closed for urgent repairs. During that time productions were staged at Singleton Village Hall.

Once firmly back home in Poulton Community Hall on Vicarage Road the Chaddeans invested in lighting and sound equipment, all of which should put its own shine on their Gold show.
